Rhimes will executive produce a drama called "Gilded Lillys" from writer K.J. Steinberg, Deadline reports. It's set in New York circa 1895 and focuses on the family that builds and runs the city's first luxury hotel. Employees and guests at the hotel will also play into the story.

Period pieces have come into vogue for the broadcast networks in the past year, with ABC near the head of the pack in developing them. It has the 1960s-set "Pan Am" premiering in the fall, and last pilot season developed a drama called "Poe" that was set in the 1840s.

Steinberg, who co-created "The Nine" and has worked on "Gossip Girl" and "Judging Amy," is writing the pilot and will executive produce with Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
