'Simpsons' Mrs. Krabappel Marcia Wallace dies; 'Bob Newhart Show' receptionist was 70
Wallace was known decades ago as the quirky receptionist Carol Kester on "The Bob Newhart Show," appearing in nearly all of the 142 episodes of the comedy. Her character married her on-screen boyfriend Larry Bondurant in the memorable Season 4 episode titled "Carol's Wedding" and she reprised the role in a funny turn for "Murphy Brown" in 1994, for which she earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for Guest Actress in a Comedy.
Wallace also won a Primetime Emmy in 1992 for her Outstanding Voice-Over Work on "The Simpsons."
The breast cancer activist, who fought and beat the disease in the mid-1980s, also had recurring roles on "Full House," "The Young and the Restless" and "7th Heaven."
Wallace's husband Denny passed away from pancreatic cancer in 1992. She is survived by a son, Michael.
