'Small Town Security's' Joan Koplan: 'I am absolutely wild, especially sexually'

Conceptually, AMC's new unscripted series "Small Town Security," which premieres Sunday, July 15, is about the colorful characters and activity inside JJK Security, a company based in Ringgold, Ga. In broad terms, the show deals with the often fractious goings-on of the entire staff.

They might as well have named it "Here's Joan," however, since the show is dominated by hot-as-a-pistol Joan Koplan, known to the rest of the staff as "the chief."

Not one to hide her light under a bushel, Koplan, 61, says she pitched the show to an old friend at the William Morris Agency after hearing frequent comments from locals that the craziness in her office was highly entertaining. Not that she exactly had to be encouraged, however.

"I find myself to be fascinating," she tells Zap2it with characteristic candor. "I am 61 years old, but I feel like I am 17, and sometimes even 13. I've never had to take drugs, because music is my drug. I can actually sit and listen to some songs and I just feel like my mind and body are going to explode. What I am trying to say in a nutshell is that when I hear music that I really love, my body and soul actually crawl into the music. It's like I become the music."

She's also well known to her staff for making often wildly inappropriate comments, many of them sexual in nature, but that's just part of who she is, Koplan says.

"I am absolutely wild, especially sexually," she reveals. "I have the sex urges of a 17-year-old. I think about sex 24 hours a day. I don't think like a 61-year-old. When I'm driving in my car, if a song comes on that I like, I want to blast it. I roll the windows down and just go wild.

"As far as I am concerned, I am chronologically 61 years old, but in all reality, I am 17 in terms of the way I feel. That's not put on, either."
