'Supernatural's' Sera Gamble hooks up with Greg Berlanti and ABC for new medical drama

sera-gamble-greg-berlanti.jpgThat didn't take long! Shortly after leaving "Supernatural" to work on her own projects, former showrunner Sera Gamble has landed a deal with ABC to develop a medical drama about a neurosurgeon who suffers a traumatic brain injury.

Gamble is teaming up with Greg Berlanti of "Brothers and Sisters" and "Political Animals" for the project, which is part of ABC's development slate for Fall 2013.

ABC has made a script commitment plus penalty -- which basically means that the writer and producer will be paid a fee if the pilot doesn't get produced, increasing the chance that it will get a pickup.

In the show, neurosurgeon Dr. Steven Saylor becomes a "medical anomaly" after a catastrophic accident, and he's forced to enter a new specialty as an internist at his hospital. Gamble will write the script and executive produce, with Berlanti as executive producer and Melissa Kellner as co-executive producer. The project is from Warner Bros. TV.

Deadline first reported the sale.
