'Teen Mom 2' Season 5 premiere: Jenelle Evans clears up rumors about her abortion and miscarriage
Jenelle Evans is no stranger to being in the headlines. But the young mother hopes that Season 5 of "Teen Mom 2" will give viewers a better understanding of some of the choices she's made recently -- specifically, the decision to get an abortion.
Before the new season premieres on Tuesday (Jan. 21), Evans wanted to clear up some of the rumors surrounding her controversial choice. "The only thing I'm really nervous about is the whole abortion thing. I just don't want people to judge me for the current pregnancy I have now," Evans tells Zap2it in the only solo interview she gave ahead of the premiere.
"I just hope everyone understands where I'm coming from. Everyone thinks I got like three abortions before with Courtland [Roger]'s baby and I never have. I had one miscarriage with Courtland, and then I got pregnant again, and then I had an abortion."
Evans knows that being a reality TV star means false information will always be out there, and she wants to set the record straight. "I've only had one abortion in my life, I swear," Evans says. "I don't use it as a form of birth control. I know a lot of people are against abortion, but I just want them to understand it is pro-choice. Sometimes you get stuck in a really bad situation and then you just have to take action for what's best for you at the time and not bring an innocent baby into the world if it's going to have a horrible life."
Season 5 of "Teen Mom 2" will show Evans' decision to get an abortion, but that's not all viewers will see. "What's coming up for me is basically everyone's going to see me overcome my addiction and they're going to see that I got an abortion, but I hope they understand why. I explain it thoroughly," Evans says. "And I want everyone to see how good I'm doing and how smooth this season is going to go."
Evans means smoother than earlier seasons, since viewers will get to see how she's matured and overcome her issues this season. "I'm excited for everyone to see me overcome my addiction and see a lot more calmer sides to me," Evans says. "I can deal with my mom's arguments now and I just don't engage in them. I'm able to sit there and discuss with her about our problems instead of just getting mad and storming out."
In addition to viewers seeing how she's grown, Evans is looking forward to helping other young girls realize they don't have it that bad. "I just want people to know that no matter how bad things get in your life, no matter if it's addiction, a boyfriend, or whatever, you can get out of it and you can get past it. You shouldn't be held back by the past," Evans says.
"Who cares what others think because I know a lot of girls who are like, 'Oh so and so did this, oh my god, everyone thinks I'm a whore or I'm on drugs,' and I'm like, 'You don't even know how easy you have it compared to me.' So trust me, just ignore whoever it is because I have like 50 people telling me I'm a whore and everything."
"Teen Mom 2" Season 5 premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.
