It was revealed in late August that "Teen Mom" star Catelynn Lowell and her fiance Tyler Baltierra had become the legal guardians of Catelynn's 16-year-old sister, Sarah Haviland. After the couple put their own baby girl, Carly, up for adoption four years earlier, what would make them take in a teenager?

Lowell tells InTouch Weekly that her mom, April Baltierra, had kicked Sarah out of the house. You might notice that Catelynn's mom and fiance share a last name. It seems April married Tyler's dad, making for a bizarre family circle.

With nowhere to live, Sarah was in trouble. "She was living on a drug addict's porch without any food," Catelynn says, "what else was I supposed to do?" Since adopting Sarah, things seem to be going well for the makeshift family.

Tyler has been keeping fans updated on Twitter, writing, "2 days after taking the responsibility of taking guardianship of my lil sister, she got a job! Me & @CatelynnLowell are beyond proud of her."

"We're not raising her, but guiding her," Lowell says. It's the couple's first outing with parenting full time. What better place to start than with a teenager?
