'Teen Wolf' reveals the Kanima: Is Jackson or Lydia the cold-blooded snake?

teen-wolf-jackson-lydia-colton-haynes-holland-roden.jpgOn Monday night's episode of "Teen Wolf," the identity of the creepy Kanima was finally revealed, but not without plenty of misdirection, suspense, and even a little bit of romance.

The Kanima, the new creature that entered the "Teen Wolf" mythology in Season 2, is a reptilian monster whose venom paralyzes victims from the neck down. It's got a taste for killing other killers, and -- if the Argent lore is to be believed -- it's just lonely and looking for a friend. Like a teenager, according to the guidance counselor who has a totally non-suspicious knowledge of archaic Latin. A really scaly teenager.

So here's how it all went down. Initially, Derek thought his bite had combined with Jackson's mysterious family history to produce a very unexpected reaction. Derek kidnapped Jackson and poisoned him with the Kanima's venom. When it paralyzed him, we figured that though he's not quite human, he's not a murderous lizard creature, either.

With Jackson ruled out, our attention -- and the attention of Derek's pack -- turned to Lydia. A game of musical lab partners turned dangerous when Erica and Isaac dosed Lydia's sugar crystal with the venom and she barely blinked an eyelash.

"Sometimes the shape you take reflects the person that you are," Derek said as Scott begged him not to hurt Lydia. "Even Stiles calls her cold-blooded."

Stiles and Alison did their best to protect Lydia as Jackson sought answers about his full moon tape. When Jackson accused Lydia of editing the video, though, they had a moment -- it seems Lydia may not be as cold-blooded as Derek thought. The mood was ruined, unfortunately, when we got a peek at Jackson's neck... and it was more scaly than sexy.

That's right -- it was a bait and switch! Despite all the clues otherwise, Jackson has been the Kanima all along. Now, the question is whether or not Scott will be able to find a way to save Jackson before Derek and his minions get to him -- and, of course, whether Jackson will want to be saved.
