The 2012 Olympic Games in London: Only 100 days to go

Wednesday, April 18 officially marks the 100-day countdown until the 2012 Summer Olympics in London kick off on Friday, July 27. "The Today Show" did a feature Wednesday morning on how London is gearing up to welcome the Games.

Matt Lauer informs us that the beach volleyball venue is just a stone's throw from Buckingham Palace, which is rather amusing. He also says Prince William, Prince Harry and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge will be on hand to cheer the torch-bearers on as they run through the grounds of Buckingham Palace on their way to the lighting at the opening ceremonies. It also looks like they've been doing sports demonstrations to get the country excited.

Does anyone else just love that Catherine is so sporty? That's fabulous.

Meanwhile, NBC has made a big announcement regarding its coverage of the games. Not only will the new NBC Sports Network be broadcasting events 'round the clock, but www.nbcolympics.com will be live streaming every event - even those that will be broadcast in primetime later that same day. The only wrinkle is the primetime events' footage won't be archived, so it won't be available after the live stream.

Still, this marks an unprecedented level of access to being able to watch all events as they  happen. And for those of you who have the TV access, keep this page bookmarked for the NBC Sports Network schedule.

Finally, the official website, www.nbcolympics.com, has launched. So far it has interviews, behind-the-scenes training videos and photo galleries, a way to meet the Olympians, a search engine by zip code that lets you follow local Olympians (how cool is that?) and all sorts of other neat features.

And if you can't get enough coverage, Yahoo! Sports Olympic blog, Fourth-Place Medal, has compiled a list of key events leading up to the Olympics, like the track and field and gymnastics qualifying events.

Only 100 days to go! Are you excited? The Olympics are such a great time.
