James Spader might be making a splash on the small screen thanks to "The Blacklist," but he's also busy prepping for one of the biggest roles of his career. He'll play the titular villain in the upcoming Marvel movie "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," and has given updates about his status with the project.

"I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it," he tells Inquirer Entertainment. "Actually, just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I'm gonna fit in this Ultron character!"

With "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" still a year and a half away from hitting theaters, the movie is in its very early stages of production. In a separate interview with The Independent, Spader talks about why comics and this role are close to his heart.

"I think it'll be a lot of fun and it's incredibly nostalgic for me," he says of playing Ultron. "When I was a kid my best friend had trunks of comics and I didn't have any so I used to love going for sleepovers at his house. Also I have three sons and two of them have a great interest in comics so they're excited I'm playing the role."

Spader will be following in the footsteps of Tom Hiddleston as a villain going up against the Avengers, and the former "The Office" star already got the Brit's stamp of approval. "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" is due in theaters on May 1, 2015.
