'The Daily Show' and 'Colbert Report' go live on election night
The two shows will each air half-hour live editions starting at 11 p.m. ET/8 PT Tuesday. First up is "Election Night 2012: This Ends Now," hosted by Jon Stewart. It will be followed by Stephen Colbert's "Election 2012: A Nation Votes, Ohio Decides; The Re-Presidenting of America: Who Will Replace Obama? '012!"
Both Stewart and Colbert have done live editions for past elections, with mixed results. The outcome of the election will very likely still be in doubt when their shows air, so they'll be reacting to and riffing on incomplete results. Airing live also means the two shows can't really string together clips of other networks' coverage for comedic effect.
Still, it's live TV in the hands of two pretty talented hosts and two strong teams of writers. The potential is there for some very good television.
Both "This Ends Now" and "A Nation Votes," etc., will also stream live on ComedyCentral.com and for users of the Daily Show Headlines app. They'll also simulcast on the MTV JumboTron screen in New York's Times Square.
