James Purefoy, who portrayed serial killer Joe Carroll (and seemingly died) in Season 1, wasn't scheduled to attend 2013 Comic-Con, but he made a fan-pleasing surprise appearance in character via a "phone call" with co-star Kevin Bacon's Ryan Hardy.

During the call, "Joe" made it clear that Purefoy would be returning as a series regular for the highly-anticipated second season, set to debut in January 2014. "On the contrary, Ryan, I'm very much alive and kicking," he said. "My apologies for not calling sooner ... You didn't really think you could do a Comic-Con panel without me?"

When asked for details about Purefoy's return, creator Kevin Williamson kept mum, only offering, "Yeah, I guess he might be alive. Of course Joe Carroll will figure into next season."

Watch the moment below and let us know, "Following" fans, are you relieved that Purefoy will be back as Joe Carroll to torment Ryan Hardy for another season?
