ABC Family has renewed its new drama series, "The Fosters," for Season 2. After new episodes air in January 2014, the second season of the multi-ethnic, foster family show will return at some point in the summer.

"'The Fosters' has demonstrated its ability to build an audience, and the creative team's compelling storytelling assures us that there will be more growth in upcoming seasons," Kate Juergens, the ABC Family chief creative officer and executive vice president of programming. "The show's dynamic cast and groundbreaking storylines resonate with our core viewers and leave them wanting more."

From executive producer Jennifer Lopez, "The Fosters" is a one-hour drama that focuses on two moms raising a group of foster and biological children. Stef Foster ( Teri Polo), a police officer, and Lena Adams Foster ( Sherri Saum), her partner and a school vice principal, live with Stef's biological son, Brandon ( David Lambert), adopted twins Mariana ( Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus ( Jake T. Austin), and foster kids Callie ( Maia Mitchell) and Jude ( Hayden Byerly).

In its first season, "The Fosters" was already the number-2 show in ABC Family's target demo (after "Pretty Little Liars"). The show won the 2013 Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Breakout Show.
