'The Office' series finale extended by 15 minutes

NBC says it's extending the May 16 series finale by 15 minutes. The episode will now run from 9 to 10:15 p.m. ET. The episode of "Hannibal" that was scheduled to air at 10 p.m. ET will still follow, but with limited commercials.

Executive producer Greg Daniels said in a conference call last week that he was working with NBC to try to get some extra time for the finale: "The network's being very creative about scraping some more time together for us without us having to start the finale at a weird time that will cause half the audience to miss the first 10 minutes or something." He appears to have gotten his wish.

Whether that extra 15 minutes makes room for a much discussed (and possibly nonexistent) Steve Carell cameo remains to be seen.

"The Office" finale will be preceded by an hour-long retrospective airing at 8 p.m. ET.
