'The Office': Watch Adam Scott, John Cho and more audition for the show

john-cho-office-audition.jpgIn 2003, as the American version of "The Office" was just getting off the ground, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn and Bob Odenkirk were among the actors who auditioned for the roles of Jim, Pam and Michael.

Press reports from that time, and a Facebook post by "Office" star Rainn Wilson from earlier this year, clued us in to some of the people who read for roles on the show. Now, you can actually see some of those auditions.

Readings by Scott and John Cho (Jim), Seth Rogen (Dwight), Odenkirk (Michael), Hahn (Pam) and future "Modern Family" star Eric Stonestreet (Kevin) are part of an extra feature on "The Office" Season 9 Blu-ray and DVD sets. You can get a glimpse of their readings in the clip below.

Scott and Cho give line readings not all that different from those of John Krasinski, who eventually got the part of Jim. It's not hard to imagine Odenkirk as Michael or Hahn as Pam, although the brief bit we see of her is a little bit sharper-edged than the way Jenna Fischer played Pam.

Rogen's take on Dwight, however, is quite different from what we would come to know with Wilson. And it's just fascinating to ponder what might have been had Stonestreet, who at the time was doing mostly small movie roles and one-off guest appearances on TV, had been cast as Kevin instead of Brian Baumgartner. The Cam we know on "Modern Family" would probably be vastly different.

Other extras on the "Office" home video set include two-plus hours of deleted scenes, a retrospective documentary and a table read of the series finale. It goes on sale Sept. 3.
