'The Secret Circle' love geometry update: Adam and Cassie make their choices
"The birthday party is okay, but when the party's over, the night doesn't end well," Thomas Dekker teased when Zap2it visited the cast on set this week. "Let's put it that way."
It doesn't help that, in a rather uncomfortable twist, Ethan enlists Diana's help for the party.
"It's awkward," Shelley Hennig tells us. "Diana is very mature in this situation, and she's sort of given Adam permission to go explore his feelings for Cassie, but she's definitely hurting."
We're going to see some definite shifts in the great Diana/Adam/Cassie/Jake love square over the next few episodes as Adam and Cassie make choices about who they want to be with. The birthday party doesn't make Adam's decisions any easier.
"At this point in the story, he's sort of decided that he tried for a long time to get back together with Diana, and when she wouldn't budge, he has clearly decided to move on to Cassie," Thomas said while we chatted with him in his trailer. "It's more painful for Diana than it is for him, because she broke up with him, but she's not over him. There's a scene where she gives a birthday speech and Shelley just did a wonderful job. Shelley's the one who always makes me sad when I watch the show. I always get very moved by her work."
Shelley says that despite Diana's bravado, she's hoping that Cassie's and Adam's whole star-crossed-lovers situation fails miserably. "She doesn't want to be in the way if they're not meant to be, but I think she wants Adam and her to be meant to be," she says.
Of course, just because Adam has chosen to be with Cassie doesn't mean that Cassie has chosen him over Jake. (You didn't think this love triangle thing was going to be easy, did you?)
"I'm rooting for her to choose Jake," says Chris Zylka. "It's so fun to do scenes with Britt. On the other hand, it's also fun to play against the secondary emotions of anger whenever I see them together. Coming up, the three of us film a lot of scenes together. It's fun to play every single angle of Jake -- to question whether he truly loves her or is using her dark magic to get back at the witch hunters. Jake's a really, really good liar, and people are starting to pick up on that now."
Chris tells us that Jake becomes quieter in upcoming episodes -- not because he doesn't have anything to say, but because he's concerned that the Circle might be able to see through to his hidden agenda if he talks too much.
If you think you've got it all figured out... don't hold your breath. Shelley assures us that there are some surprises in store for the fans. "What I love about what's happening right now is that the relationships are not staying the same. They are evolving, and in a weird, different way. I think people will be really surprised by how the friendships and romances play out, especially with Diana."
Tune in Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on The CW!
