'The Vampire Diaries' flashes back to 1942 as the Salvatore brothers look for answers in New Orleans

"The Vampire Diaries" flashback episodes are always our favorite, so we're completely salivating for the Dec. 6 episode, titled "We'll Always Have Bourbon Street." The only thing we love more than flashbacks is Salvatore bro bonding time, and this episode will have plenty of both as Stefan and Damon leave Mystic falls and set out for New Orleans together.

They're in town to do some research regarding some odd behavior that Stefan has noticed from Elena -- and their investigation brings them to Charlotte (Madeline Zima), one of Damon's former (vampire) flames. We'll also flash back to their last visit to the city in 1942, when Stefan and Damon were enlisted in the army during World War II. By the time Stefan and Damon leave town, though, Damon will be faced with a heartbreaking decision.

While both her love interests are out of town, it's a perfect time for Elena to get in some quality time with her girlfriends, but when she tells Bonnie and Caroline some surprising news, they may not agree with some of her, uh, choices.

Elsewhere, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) urges Tyler to confront Kimberly (Alyssa Diaz), one of Klaus's hybrids. Things get heated (and violent!) pretty quickly.
