'The Voice': CeeLo Green reveals his time with the NBC hit is done
Well, "Voice" fans, this certainly wasn't expected.
Less than a week away from the premiere of Season 6, Season 5 coach CeeLo Green has announced that he won't be returning to the hit NBC singing competition in the fall.
While taping an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" set to air Wednesday (Feb. 19), the eccentric coach, who is sitting this spring out in favor of returning coach Usher, dropped the bomb that he has no plans to return at all.
"I'm going to continue my relationship with NBC," he tells DeGeneres. "I have a television show development deal with them as well and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year. But yeah, I'm going to miss 'The Voice' too. So I'm not coming back guys..."
Clearly not the answer she was expecting by saying she'd miss his season off, DeGeneres answered with shock: "Oh, you're not coming back at all?"
"Yeah, I just want to to ... I don't want to wear out my welcome there," he replies. "You know what I'm saying. I have so many other things that I want to do. I haven't released an album in four years. I'm almost done with my album..."
Green was only expected to mimic his Season 4 leave of absence and return for Season 7 this fall, alongside fellow vacationing coach Christina Aguilera. Filling in for them in Season 6 are returning substitutes Usher and Shakira.
"The Voice" returns for Season 6 on Monday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
Are you disappointed that Green's tenure on "The Voice" has come an end?
