AMC announced Monday (Nov. 8) that they are renewing "The Walking Dead" for a second season.

The "Dead," which has only aired two episodes thus far, has garnered strong ratings for the network. The Halloween (Oct. 31) premiere was the largest audience for the network for an original series ever attracting 5.3 million viewers, while Sunday's (Nov. 7) episode drew 4.7 million.

"The Walking Dead" is based on comic book series by Robert Kirkman and centers on sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes ( Andrew Lincoln) who, with a band of survivors, try to eke out an existence after a zombie apocalypse.
