Just when it was looking like the long-running Tim Tebow NFL drama had finally reached an end, the New England Patriots have cut the quarterback before the season begins. The decision was made Saturday (August 31), the day NFL teams are required to cut down their rosters to 53 players.

The news was first reported by ESPN, but it didn't take long before Tebow started talking about the release, writing his own statement on Twitter.

"I would like to thank Mr. Kraft, Coach Belichick, Coach McDaniels and the entire Patriots organization for giving me the opportunity to be a part of such a classy organization. I pray for nothing but the best for you all. I will remain in relentless pursuit of continuing my lifelong dream of being an NFL quarterback."

Tebow signed with the Patriots in June, after a bumpy off-season that saw him cut from the New York Jets, who simply sat him on the bench for a season. While other NFL teams showed little interest in hiring Tebow, the Orlando Predators, an Arena Football League team, offered him a contract. Perhaps that deal is still on the table, since Tebow's NFL prospects are running out of time.
