Tommy Chong reveals prostate cancer diagnosis

tommy-chong-cheech-marin-getty.jpg Tommy Chong, 74 (above, left), best known as one-half of the marijuana--loving comedy duo Cheech and Chong, alongside comedian Cheech Marin (above, right), has revealed he is battling prostate cancer, reports CNN. Chong revealed his diagnosis in an interview about his support for the decriminalization of marijuana.

"I've got prostate cancer, and I'm treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis. So [legalizing marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested," says Chong.

Chong's diagnosis is a slow stage one that he has had for a long time, he says, which is good because that means the doctors found it early. Cancer becomes worse as it progresses from stage one to stage four. He also says the prostate-related problems began during a time when he was drug-free for about thee years, so he knows that marijuana is not the cause.

"Cannabis is a cure," says Chong.

He does tell CNN that he doesn't smoke marijuana anymore. Rather, he ingests hemp oil "at night, so [he] won't be woozy all day."

Cheech and Chong will still continue to tour as a comedy act. They have tour dates this summer and into the fall across the country.
