TV bites: Kelly Bishop has 'Mercy,' Jeff Probst will 'Live for the Moment'

The Tony Award winner will play a patient under Sonia's (Jaime Lee Kirchner) care in several episodes of the medical drama, NBC confirms to Zap2it. The network hasn't set an airdate for the start of her arc yet.

Bishop is best known for playing the prickly Gilmore matriarch Emily on "Gilmore Girls" for seven seasons (and before that, probably for being Baby's mom in "Dirty Dancing"). More recently she's guested on episodes of "Law & Order: SVU" and "Army Wives."

- "Survivor" finishes its fall run Sunday and will be back on the air sometime early next year, but fans of host Jeff Probst won't have to wait quite that long to see him on CBS again.

In blogging about Thursday's "Survivor: Samoa" for EW.com, Probst said that the network is airing a pilot for a show he created called "Live for the Moment." It's scheduled for the "Survivor" slot of 8 p.m. ET Thursday on Jan. 28.

As Probst describes it, the show "offers great adventure as well as an uplifting message about how to get the most out of life" as it follows people with a terminal illness who wants to experience something great in the time they have left. Probst is executive producing the show with Mark Burnett.

For now "Live for the Moment" will be a one-time-only special, but if it does well you'll presumably see more episodes in the future.
