TV ratings: 'Happy Endings' hits series high Wednesday; CBS, ABC lead the night
A rerun-heavy Wednesday night -- including on FOX, which was faced with a rainout of the World Series -- was good news for some of the shows that did air original episodes. ABC's comedies "The Middle," "Suburgatory" and "Happy Endings" all hit series highs in viewers and adults 18-49, and "Survivor" and "America's Next Top Model" were up as well. And even though "Modern Family" was a repeat, it still delivered the night's top 18-49 score.
CBS led the night in viewers, averaging 10.65 million and a 6.7 rating/11 share in households. ABC (9.5 million, 6.0/10) finished a solid second. There was a sizable drop to third-place NBC (4 million, 2.7/4). FOX (2.4 million, 1.6/2) came in fourth, beating out The CW (1.8 million, 1.2/2).
The top two networks traded places in the adults 18-49 standings, with ABC's 3.3 rating snagging the top spot. CBS took second with a 2.7. The other three networks weren't much of a factor, with NBC scoring a 0.9 and FOX and The CW both averaging a 0.7.
