TV ratings: 'Idol' carries Tuesday, but it's close

"American Idol" led FOX to its usual spot at the top of Tuesday's ratings, but its numbers dropped again, allowing CBS to finish a pretty close second in viewers.

FOX drew 16.9 million viewers and a 9.6 rating/15 share in households for the night. CBS actually led in households with a 9.9/15 but finished second in viewers (15.9 million). NBC (8.6 million, 5.2/8) came in third. ABC (3.3 million, 2.2/3) was a distant fourth, and The CW's reruns managed only 920,000 viewers and a 0.7/1.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 6.1 rating led the way. CBS took second at 3.2, just ahead of NBC's 3.2. ABC averaged 1.3 and The CW 0.4.
