TV ratings: 'Modern Family' dominates Wednesday while NBC comedies are weak
The season premiere of "Modern Family" was off a little bit from last year, but it was still far and away the top-rated show on TV Wednesday night and scored the best adults 18-49 rating of any premiere so far this season.
"Modern Family" also gave a pretty good platform for the premiere of "The Neighbors," which fell a good amount from its lead-in, but was comparable to other shows that followed "Family" last season.
The same could not be said for NBC's comedies "Animal Practice" and "Guys With Kids," both of which had weak starts -- particularly in the 18-49 demographic -- in their regular time periods. "Survivor: Philippines" and "The X Factor" were both off a bit from their numbers last week.
CBS led the night in viewers, averaging 10.8 million along with a 6.7 rating/11 share in households. FOX (9.45 million, 5.7/9) came in second overall, topping ABC's 8.7 million viewers and 5.4/9. NBC (6.4 million, 4.3/7) finished fourth. The CW, still in summer mode, drew 825,000 viewers and a 0.5/1.
FOX led the 18-49 demo in primetime with a 3.3 rating. ABC finished second with a 2.9, edging CBS' 2.8. NBC posted a 1.9 to take fourth, while The CW came in at 0.3.
