Uggie, 'The Artist' dog, is generating Oscar buzz. Yes, really.

uggie-the-dog-gi.jpgUggie, the 9-year-old Jack Russell terrier, who co-stars opposite Jean Dujardin in the Golden Globe-winning "The Artist," is turning heads in Hollywood and even generating a little Awards Season buzz himself.

There is now a Facebook campaign underway to allow Uggie (and other animals) to be nominated in mainstream categories, like best supporting actor and supporters are asking fans to tweet about the four-legged thespian using the tag #consideruggie.

At Sunday's (Jan. 15) Globes ceremony, Uggie was the toast of the red carpet -- even scoring an interview with People (see below) -- and even accompanied "The Artist's" cast and creators on stage to accept the film's Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) award.

But Uggie himself has been the recipient of at least one big-time accolade -- for a dog. He won the Palm Dog at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for the best canine performance in a film. He's also heavily favored to win top honors at the inaugural Dog News Daily Golden Collar Awards in February -- where the best canine performances on film will be judged by a panel of dog lovers, reports The Daily Mail.

Uggie's previous film credits inclue "Water for Elephants" and "Mr. Fix It."
