'Vampire Diaries' EP Julie Plec to write 'Tiger's Curse' screenplay

julie-plec-tca.jpgIf you're a fan of "The Vampire Diaries," you're in luck -- because showrunner extraordinaire Julie Plec is spreading her talent around this year. Plec has been hired by Paramount Pictures and  Mary Parent's Disruption Entertainmentto write the film adaptation of young adult book "The Tiger's Curse," by Collen Houck.

Like the current pop culture phenomenon "50 Shades of Grey," the book was first available as an E-book before word spread -- and now it's been translated into 15 languages, been on the New York Times bestseller list, and is set to become a five-book series.

This is Plec's first shot at writing a feature (outside of the spec realm), though she's no stranger to adapting YA books, of course, as "The Vampire Diaries" began life as a series of novels. There's a supernatural element to "The Tiger's Curse" as well. It tells the story of a teenage girl hired to take care of a tiger... who turns out to be a cursed Indian prince who turns into a man for a half an hour every day.

The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
