VMAs 2013: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis forget Mary Lambert in 'Same Love' acceptance speech

macklemore-ryan-lewis-mary-lambert-vmas-2013.jpg Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won the Best Social Message Song for "Same Love" at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and Macklemore gave an impassioned speech about its importance when he accepted the award:

I'll be honest, I really wanted to win the Best Rap Video, but this Moonman right here stands for a lot more. I've been writing songs, since I was like 15 years old and out of every single song I have ever written, this is the most important record out of all of them. To watch this song, in the last year, spread across the world is a testament to what is happening right now in America on the forefront of equality. Gay rights are human rights, there is no separation.

Macklemore's message is great, to be sure, but almost as an afterthought, Ryan Lewis goes, "And of course, Mary Lambert!" as they are exiting the stage.

In case you weren't aware, Mary Lambert is a gay woman who is the featured singer and songwriter on "Same Love," which details her experiences growing up as a gay woman in a Christian household.

Maybe you should've given her a chance to say something too, guys.

Luckily, Lambert was in fine form later in the show, when the trio was joined by Jennifer Hudson for an emotional "Same Love" performance. We'll post video of the performance as soon as we have it.
