Watch the 'Flight of the Conchords' season premiere right here

Conchords_240When I learned that the good folks at Funny or Die were posting the second-season premiere of Flight of the Conchords, I pretty well started counting the hours until it went up. I was a bit of a latecomer to the show's first run on HBO, but once I got into it I fell hard. Not for nothing did I make Bret and Jemaine my Twitter icon.

(UPDATE: Streaming of the premiere has now migrated over to HBO.com. I can't embed it here, so I'll direct you to the show's home to check it out. Do come back and let us know whether you liked it. Also, apologies to those of you who couldn't see the Funny or Die stream on the site.)

So as soon as I could Wednesday morning, I hopped on the site and started streaming my early Christmas present. And it's ... OK.

Make no mistake: I'm still really, really excited that the show will be back on the air in a month. And the first episode, called "A Good Opportunity," has its share of fantastically funny moments, whether it's Murray getting a big musical number of his own or Jemaine and Bret's conversation about whether weaving is men's or women's work (a bit that pays off again later in the episode).

But the reported difficulties that Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement had with writing songs for this season seem to be evident. Aside from Murray's (Rhys Darby) opening number, the two other songs in the episode feel pretty slight; there's certainly nothing on the level of "If You're Into It" or "Business Time."

None of that, however, means I won't be setting the season pass for the show come Jan. 18.

Don't take my word for it, though. Judge for yourself and let us know what you think.
