Why won't Tom Hiddleston be in 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'?

For a Marvel villain, Loki has had a pretty big presence in the studio's Cinematic Universe. Tom Hiddleston's fan-favorite character appeared as the central bad guy in both "Thor" and "The Avengers," and teams up with his half-brother (at least for a little bit) in the upcoming "Thor: The Dark World." Just don't expect him to appear again in the recently-announced "The Avengers: Age of Ultron."

"I think it's great for the film -- I think it's great for 'Avengers 2' -- that I'm not going to be in it, because I'm so proud of the first one," Hiddleston tells Empire. "Joss [Whedon] and I, there were so many things that we both love about it and in a way if I was in it we'd be chasing those moments, we'd be chasing that again. The Avengers need a new bad guy to fight, they need new things to do. I'll miss the dance parties and Scarlett [Johansson] mixes a mean tequila, but for the film I'll be waving them off and saying 'Good luck, have fun' and I'll be in the front row when it comes out."

Watch the above interview to hear Hiddleston talk about the surprising "Star Wars" costume he wore through San Diego International Airport to keep his appearance a secret, as well as other details about Loki's appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Thor: The Dark World" is due in theaters on Nov. 8. "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" comes out on May 1, 2015.
