Will 'Man of Steel' feature Superman's foe Lex Luthor?

Even though "Man of Steel" is set to release this summer, surprisingly little is known about this version of the Superman story. There have been set pictures, a poster, and a trailer, but none of it gives away many details about the movie's plot. The stellar cast, including Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Russel Crowe, and Kevin Costner, has been revealed, and it's known that General Zod ( Michael Shannon), an enemy from Superman's ( Henry Cavill) home planet of Krypton, plays a role.

What about Superman's classic foe, Lex Luthor, though? The inclusion of Luthor has been a big question mark over the movie's head, with most assuming he won't appear. When asked why the character isn't in the upcoming movie by I Am Rogue, screenwriter David S. Goyer says, "I don't think anyone has ever confirmed that we haven't included him."

Naturally, that one sentence set off a flurry of speculation about the movie. All of that speculation led to a report from Ain't It Cool News, which claims to know the answer. Fair warning: if you want to go into the movie clean, read no further.

AICN received a tip from someone, allegedly connected to the movie industry, who claims that Luthor is in the film. The actor reportedly taking on the role is Mackenzie Gray. Gray is an interesting choice for the part, as he is not new to the Superman universe. He appeared in a 2010 episode of "Smallville" as a clone of that show's Luthor.

Adding more fuel to the fire, an interview with Gray confirms that he does have a role in "Man of Steel," but he isn't allowed to talk about it. While none of this is confirmation of Luthor in the film, the pieces certainly keep adding up. With the movie set for theaters in June, it shouldn't be too long before another trailer is released.
