'X Factor': Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan interested in judging seat

Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan is throwing his hat into the ring. He expressed his interest in joining the singing competition following an appearance at SXSW.

When asked by Spinner.com whether he'd be open to the judging position, he says, "I'd love it." Corgan then goes on to offer a backhanded compliment to the show and "American Idol."

"I don't have a problem with 'Idol' or 'X Factor,' I have a problem with when those things are not given the proper contextual hue...If there's an 'American Idol' there should be a proper alternative counterbalance -- if there was hair metal, there was grunge," Corgan says.

Despite his interest and music industry credentials, it's unlikely that Corgan will get the offer. Cowell has previously stated it's "100 percent" certain that he's looking for two women to fill the open slots.
