Zachary Quinto reveals he's gay in New York magazine

zachary-quinto-nymag.jpg Zachary Quinto may be best known for playing Spock in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot and as Sylar on NBC's "Heroes," but it's his latest role in an Off Broadway production of "Angels in America" that inspired the actor to admit that he's gay.

"As a gay man, it made me feel like there's still so much work to be done, and there's still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed," he said in a new interview with New York magazine.

In the past, Quinto has declined to comment on his sexuality -- even refusing to answer a point blank question from a New York Times reporter in 2010.

In the new interview, Quinto also talks about bullying and says he feels "helpless" that peer pressure has caused some young gay men to commit suicide.

"Why can't we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?" he said. "We're terrified of facing ourselves."
