It’s been almost 10 years since The WB signed off the air for the last time, making way for The CW to carry the torch of much of its programming — but certainly not all of its spirit.
When The WB went away, it took one very important thing with it: the promotional music video. A staple of just about the entire 11-year run of the network, the music videos perfectly encapsulated exactly what The WB wanted you to feel when you were tuning in.
They were loaded with young, pretty, famous people who were partying together and seemingly wanted us to join in on the fun. At least, that’s what we convinced ourselves of. Who didn’t want to dance with Sarah Michelle Geller or play dominoes with James Van Der Beek and Michelle Williams? Furthermore, who didn’t want to just be best friends with Katie Holmes or Keri Russell?
Sit back and get ready for a time warp with Zap2it as we look back at the music videos (commercials) that made us want to jump in the TV to hang out with our favorite stars. How many of these shows did you watch?
Now the question everyone needs to think about is why The CW doesn’t do this? Who doesn’t want to see the cast of “Arrow” mingling with the folks from “Jane the Virgin” or Team Flash out on the town the the vamps from “The Vampire Diaries? The CW even has a musical show in “My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” so a music video seems only logical. Time to step up your game, CW!
