Molly Glynn, a well-known actress in the Chicago theater scene but whom TV watchers know as an ER doctor on “Chicago Fire,” was killed Friday (Sept. 5) in an accident when she was hit by a falling tree while riding bicycles with her husband Joe Foust (pictured above together).
David Rice, executive director of First Folio Theatre in Chicago, tells the AP that Foust and Glynn were out riding together when inclement weather rolled into the area. As they were attempting to ride to safety, a tree slammed into Glynn. Foust called 911 at just before 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
“It was a freak accident and a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” says Rice. He adds, “Molly was one of the most loving and generous people in the Chicago theater scene. She was incredibly talented — incredibly versatile. She could handle both comedy and the deepest, darkest dramas.”
Foust has been posting updates of the ordeal on Facebook. His latest entry says he’s preparing to say goodbye, as Glynn is going to be used as an organ donor before she is laid to rest. There has also been a trust set up in her name.
Glynn’s other TV credits include “Boss” and “Early Edition.” She is survived by husband Foust and two teenage sons.
