The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has an estimated 10,000 followers, yet it remains one of the most secretive and controversial sects in the U.S. The reality-documentary “Breaking the Faith” attempts to do what, according to TLC, no series has before — fully explore the experiences of individuals who are no longer FLDS members. The hourlong episodes follow eight young men and women who have left the church — by choice or force — and are trying to build a new future. They describe daily life in the FLDS and what it took to break away from a setting in which every decision was made for them. Now they face making life-altering choices with the fear that consequences for leaving the compound will come without warning.
