Tori Spelling's Happy to Be Back in '90210'
And waiting to see what's become of Donna Martin
"I'm just as interested as the fans are to know where she's at," Spelling says.
Spelling and husband Dean McDermott were on a conference call Wednesday (May 28) to discuss the third season of their Oxygen reality show "Tori & Dean," which finds them giving up the bed-and-breakfast business and moving back to Los Angeles (it premieres June 17). Unsurprisingly, though, several questions about Spelling's recent casting on "90210," where she'll reprise her role as Donna, came up -- including whether the Oxygen show will make note of the news.
"It just happened, so we haven't filmed anything for the show as of yet," Spelling says. "But as our show covers everything that happens in our lives, I'm sure there'll be something in it regarding ['90210']."
On the new show, Donna is the owner of "one of the coolest stores in Beverly Hills" that's frequented by the current generation of students at West Beverly High School. Spelling is the second member of the original "Beverly Hills, 90210" cast to sign on to the update; Jennie Garth will reprise her role as Kelly Taylor, now a counselor at the school.
Returning to her best-known role was pretty much a no-brainer. "I chose to go back to '90210' because it's home, you know?" she says. "We had such a loyal fanbase for so many years. I owe everything to our fans. So I relaly felt a need to give back to them and give them Donna again, see where she is now."
Beyond the initial description of the character, though, Spelling doesn't know what the "90210" writers have in store for Donna -- like, for instance, if she's still married to David Silver (Brian Austin Green, who's currently working on FOX's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles").
"It's definitely a story line to explore," she says. "I see her as -- Donna's pretty determined. I see her as pretty hard-core career woman who's been pretty driven all these years. It will be interesting, at least for me, to see how that affected her marriage and where she stands with that."
