While Season 1 of “The Bridge” focused on Texan Det. Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger) and Mexican Det. Marco Ruiz (Demian Bichir) finding a serial killer who left a body on the actual, literal bridge connecting El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico, Season 2 expanded the show’s world to include more of the lives of its characters and the culture around the U.S.-Mexico border.
“It was scary as s*** to try [something so different with the show], but ultimately if we were going to tell a story about the border and tell the show that I think ‘The Bridge’ can be, we had to do it,” executive producer Elwood Reid told reporters before the Season 2 premiere. “The characters warranted it. There was a lot of story I wanted to tell, and I could not tell that story tracking a serial killer, looking at hair fibers.”
After the events of the Season 1 finale, a new Sonya emerged.
“There’s a reset of her character because of what happens that has been really exciting. I think if we are lucky enough to get a third season, there’s a whole new dynamic,” star Kruger told Zap2it ahead of the Season 2 premiere. “This season I finally get the opportunity to show a private life. You see her evolve a little bit. I just think her character is being explored more, and I’m able to show more emotions and more limitations also.”
Unfortunately, the show was canceled after a well-received — if slightly ambiguous — Season 2 finale, but you can relive all the action on the Season 2 DVD and win a copy, courtesy of Zap2it and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, along with an exclusive sneak peek of the behind-the-scenes commentary in the video above. The DVD is available starting Tuesday, January 13.
